Wow doesn't time fly when your having fun!
I first arrived at Glebe in September 2010. I stayed for just under two weeks, to get an idea of what it would be like to work here as an apprentice and to see if I would want to live and work here for 6 months and gain experience from Margaret Gardiner (http://www.maggygardiner.com/ ). Within that time we prepared, packed and fired her small salt and soda kiln. I hardly knew anything about this type of firing so it was a great experience!
So at the end of January 2011 I started my 6 month apprenticeship! The 6 months ended in Aug and we organised another month in September where Frauke Abel (http://www.fraukeramik.de/) and myself would come and work together for a month to swap knowledge and discuss our plans for setting up workshops and starting our businesses.
Tuesday morning I will set off home and the next adventure of becoming a potter will start! I have booked a stand with Creative Crafts Association to be part of a craft fair at the Reebok Stadium on the 30th October 2011. It is a one day selling event, opens 10am - 4.30pm. I am going to apply for an exhibition called 'Young Artist of the Year Award' at the Biscuit Factory Gallery, Newcastle. Most importantly I will be practising my throwing and experimenting with slips and glazes until I find something I can produce with my electric kiln that I am happy with.
A massive thank you to Maggy! I'm so grateful for the opportunity she gave me to gain experience from working with her. I have learnt so much over this past year and had such a brilliant time. THANK YOU!!
There will be lots more posts to follow so you can see what I have been getting up to...!
